  • What is a Dream?

What is a Dream?

A dream is something special for each child that creates a moment of magic and provides lasting impact.

Dreams Come True fulfils dreams for children living with disabilities, serious illnesses and medical conditions, and who also face challenges exacerbated by poverty. We are the only wish granting charity specifically supporting children living in the highest areas of deprivation across the UK.

Our team of dream makers work closely with each family to deliver a dream that's made especially with that child in mind. Whether that's a holiday, a specially adapted trike, sensory toys or electronics to make every day life a little easier, an unforgettable experience day or even a bedroom makeover.

A dream can also be something that benefits the wider community - you can read more about this on our Community Dreams page.

Each dream we deliver aims to improve the physical health, mental health or emotional wellbeing of every child we support. This may be through increased confidence and understanding of the world around them through sensory play, or improved balance, co-ordination and strength when using their adapted trike, or improved wellness and mental health when relaxing in their newly designed bedroom. It may even be through holidays that bring the family together and allow them to create memories that are cherished forever.

Every dream has a unique impact which allows that child to thrive.

The types of dreams we offer are:

Home Makeovers: Bedrooms redesigned by our team of dream makers, inspired by each dream child, or garden play equipment to enhance a child's environment

Reimagined Community Spaces: Sensory rooms and outdoor playgrounds reimagined for children to access in their community

Getaways: UK holidays and cherished experience days built to inspire a lifetime of memories

Or something from our Small change, Big impact Programme: This programme aims to improve the daily lives of isolated children through access to vital equipment and technology.

Our Makeovers, Experience Days and Small change, Big impact Programme can all be delivered on an individual basis or as part of a Community Dream.

Have a read through of some of our amazing Dream Stories and see the moments of magic and lasting impact our dreams have had on the children we support.

Equipment Dream, Small change big impact

"Dreams Come True is an invaluable charity to support families with items we are not able to" - Donna, a social worker who referred Noah for an iPad dream in December.

Mum Marta also told us "He is much calmer now, and the iPad has been a lifesaver during long hospital visits"

Experience Day Dream

"I just wanted to say thank you so much for organising such an amazing day for Zahra and her family. Zahra absolutely loved meeting the lions, and her little face when she saw them close up brought tears to my eyes, it was amazing. You really did make Zahra’s dream come through so Thank you." - Becky Kerry, Family Support Worker

Callum's Christmas party (urgent dream)

"The family and all of our staff were delighted with the dream and the memories it created " This delicate situation was handled wonderfully by Dreams Come True. Callum has loved every minute of this day, his presents and seeing his family. I’m just thrilled and on behalf of Ward 85 I would like to thank you Holly for the organising, planning, communication and making this dream come true!" - Jodie, Ward Manager, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
